The development involves the construction of a contemporary family dwelling on a 2 acre site within the village of Lacken, Co. Wicklow.
The house is orientated southwards to the Blessington Lakes, with large window openings positioned to maximise solar gain and views. The dwelling form comprises a single storey living block linked to a 2 storey bedroom block by an open plan kitchen arrangement. Our involvement stretched from sketch design, through planning and construction to completion.
The dwelling was constructed by an Austrian firm ‘Griffner Haus’ using a prefabricated timber frame system. The heating is provided via a ground source heat pump and solar panels complement the domestic water heating system. A low mono-pitch zinc roof was incorporated to minimise the buildings impact on the sloping site.
